14th Century Coif Pattern

Instructions
The pattern is available at the end of this post as a .pdf
Needed:
· 1 meter of linen or other middle weight natural fibre fabric
· Colour match thread
· Needle
· Ties, colour match shoelaces etc
· Scissors
1. Pre-wash and dry fabric. Iron flat.
2. Trace around pattern and cut as directed.
3. Join point A on coif to point A on back, right sides together.
4. Pin or baste coif side to back, from top to bottom.
5. Repeat on other side.
6. Adjust pins or basting to fit your head.
7. Sew the pinned seams with a machine or a strong hand stitch (backstitch).
8. Finish the seams with a serger, zigzag stitch or other preferred method.
9. Press the seams open, so the seam on the right side is flat and crisp looking.
10. Fold approximately 1/3 inch under at sides of the face opening and neck hem and pin
11. Fold over 1/3 inch a second time, to hide the raw edge of the fabric. Pin, removing first pins.
12. Press flat.
13. Sew near folded edge, (orange arrow) using a matching thread on machine or by hand (blind hem stitch).
14. Attach one tie at each point at the bottom of the face opening.
